Palm Rejection

It’s actually great. Inklet can detect and reject accidental touches around the edges. This is super-helpful on bigger trackpads.

How do I install and run Inklet?

Step 1: When it’s done downloading, drag it to your Applications folder.
Step 2: Launch Inklet. You will see a black droplet on the toolbar in the upper right-hand corner or your screen. Inklet will run in the background while you go about your business elsewhere on your laptop.

How do I use Inklet with Photoshop or another drawing program?

Step 1: Open a drawing program such as Photoshop.
Step 2: When you're ready to start Inklet, click on the droplet icon and select 'Start Inklet,' or use the hotkey (the default hotkey is control+option+i). Draw with your Pogo on the trackpad. If you don't have a Pogo, you can change the drawing tool to 'finger' in the Inklet drawing preferences.
Step 3: Move your Pogo lightly around on the trackpad to allow the cursor to hover without inking. Increase pressure to draw. heavier pressure will result in a thicker stroke.

I’m drawing, but nothing is showing up?!

Make sure you have a drawing program open under Inklet. Compatible programs are listed a few questions down. Also, make sure you have a pen tool selected in your program, and you’re not trying to draw with white on a white background. That never works.

How do I register Inklet?

You will be given an activation key in your purchase confirmation email. Activating with this key will remove the demo message in Inklet. Click the black inklet icon in your top right toolbar, and select 'Preferences..' Now, select the Register tab, and paste your key into the text field. If you don't see your confirmation email, make sure to check your spam folder.

Can I draw without a Pogo?

Yes, just change the drawing tool to 'finger' in the Inklet drawing preferences. It’s not as easy, but it’s way possible.

Can I use Inklet with an external Magic Trackpad?

Yes. If an internal trackpad is not available, Inklet will automatically detect and use a connected Magic Trackpad. Inklet works best on internal trackpads, as pressure sensitivity is limited on the Magic Trackpad.

How might I uninstall Inklet?

Drag Inklet from your Applications folder into the trash

Got enough cash to fork out for a MacBook Pro, but too cheap to buy a drawing tablet? Then you’re exactly the target demographic for Inklet, a new solution that turns your computer’s trackpad into a functional pen tablet.

Created by Ten One Design, the product combines both a software component and the company’s Pogo Sketch stylus (not included) to turn that multi-touch area for controlling the cursor into a usable drawing surface. It does it by increasing the trackpad’s sensitivity to pressure, allowing it to detect a range of pen motions the way a real tablet would do.

Inklet is available strictly for MacBook and MacBook Pro models, so those using other machines won’t get to enjoy the honor of turning their multi-touch trackpads into a cumbersome pen tablet. It works with the handwriting recognition built into OS X, so you can use it to write down your notes instead of typing them too. Drawing feature has been tested to work with a slew of graphics apps on the Mac (they have a list on the product page) and, since it emulates a real tablet, should play nice with most available titles on the platform too.

I’m a PC guy, so I don’t know if those cheap Chinese-branded tablets can work on Macs. If they do, that sounds like a much smarter solution than this can ever hope to be. My no-brand 12-incher literally cost me less than $50 and, while it won’t give you the accuracy of a high-end Wacom slab, it works like a charm.

Printer Macbook Pro

At any rate, Inklet is available directly from the company website for $24.95. You’ll need to score a Pogo Sketch pen too if you want to use it. In case you already have one (for your iPhone or iPad), you can try the demo before purchasing.
